The london Design Festival celebrated the award of its annual design Medal yesterday at a VIP Dinner held in St Paul’s Cathedral, whose Geometric Staircase also hosts Swarovski’s collaboration with John Pawson, Perspectives.

Carrenza have been sponsoring the Festival now for 6 years and have seen it grow and develop into a major fixture on the international calendar, with the award ceremony as its highlight. The London Design Medal is one of British design’s most coveted accolades, more especially so because winners are shortlisted and selected by a distinguished panel of peers and experts.

Previous recipients have included Thomas Heatherwick, Zaha Hadid, Paul Smith and Marc Newson. The main award last night went to Ron Arad, but a special lifetime achievement award was also presented to Vidal Sassoon, remarkably this was the first award for design he has recieved in a 60-year career.

It seems like only yesterday we were guzzling beers and celebrating another record-breaking Red Nose Day, but time moves on and we are busily preparing for the launch of Sport Relief 2012. over at Comic Relief they have cooked up another indescribably cruel way to torture poor David Walliams, this time he had the task of swimming down the Thames to raise awareness of this years campaign and to raise some money to get things kicked off nicely.

As much as we like a bit of sport here at Carrenza swiming down the Thames is a touch bonkers, but that’s the point of sport relief, take part, raise some cash, have some fun.

if you’d like to sponsor David’s heroic feat, you still can, just head over to https://www.sportrelief.com/donate/walliams and give as much as you can.

A nice email from our account manager at AMD a couple of weeks ago brought with it two tickets for a trip to Italy to see the Ferrari Factory, have a look at what AMD tech is doing for Ferrari and have a play in the hills around Maranello in some of their finest cars. Funnily enough there was a scrabble for the places.

Sadly we were not allowed to take pictures at the factory, because this was where the trip was most interesting, Ferrari is all ablout giving it’s customers a bespoke experience, while in the background they are automating as much of their process as they can, it drew interesting parallels with the changes going on inside Carrenza over the last 12 months, and gave us plenty of food for thought for where we go next. Oh and we bought some more Servers too, Thanks AMD!! Awesome trip!
